Spinal Decompression Therapy

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a treatment that utilizes a motorized traction table to stretch the spine. This procedure treats bulging and herniated discs that compress spinal nerves and relieves back and neck pain.

This is a nonsurgical, drug free alternative to back surgery. According to the US FDA it has a success rate of 89%.

What can be treated with spinal decompression therapy?

Spinal Decompression Therapy relieves the pain of bulging / herniated discs, pinched nerves, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs, sciatica, neck and low back pain, and degenerative disc disease.

How does spinal decompression therapy work?

Spinal decompression involves stretching the spine using a motorized traction table with the goal of relieving neck pain, back pain, leg pain and numbness and tingling of the arms and legs by gently stretching the spine. As a result, bugling or herniated spinal discs may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures relieving pain.

Gently stretching the spine through phases of distraction and relaxation causes lower, or even negative pressure with a vacuum effect, to isolate the affected spinal disc and herniation. This releases pressure on the spinal nerves. Additionally, it creates a healing environment with increased blood flow and nutrition to the disc. Disc rehydration enhances the body’s natural healing process at the site of injury.

The patient lies on the spinal decompression table and is placed in the harness. A traction force is placed on the spine which is usually pain-free and often described as a pulling sensation that is soothing and relieving. Most patient reports no discomfort and some even fall asleep during this procedure.

Some patients reported immediate relief, however, multiple sessions may be necessary depending on the severity of your condition. After a thorough examination, your doctors will estimate how many sessions are recommended.
